The freeway frontage of Willowbrook Rd. just north of Chicago St. makes it ideal for many types of businesses, including Walmart which was originally located there. A natural northward extension of this corridor on Willowbrook Rd. is Pennington Hill (named for a former propane gas service at the top), and beyond that a small valley. Growth of the corridor was abruptly halted when Walmart relocated to Chicago St. For many, though, the question is not IF Pennington Hill is the future diamond of business development, but WHEN. First, NCG Cinemas has remained a strong anchor on the hill. Second, in 2009 the City of Coldwater purchased some land on the hill which it hopes to someday convert into a Technology Park. Finally, in 2013 Glei's constructed a retail store and greenhouse in the valley, which was the most anticipated new business in Coldwater since MyColdwater.com's founding. (Update, Sept. 2014: Sixty apartments are proposed to be constructed on the south side of Pennington Hill. This would surely boost the whole area.)
