COVID-19 EMERGENCY

COVID-19 Safe Distance

In cooperation with a mandatory statewide quarantine, all posting of new local events has been suspended until April 13th.

WHY is Michigan going crazy and shutting everything down? Isn't it impossible to stop the COVID-19 coronavirus? Isn't the fatality rate only 1%?

Yes, but the shutdowns do something VERY important: It buys us TIME. Basically most of us are going to get sick, but the goal is to not get sick all at once! Otherwise the hospitals will get overwhelmed and more people will die because they can't get the right treatment.

Buying us time also gives us more time to get more medical supplies, train medical workers, develop a vaccine, etc.

Since you are stuck in your house, READ and become informed. The following article is a long read but is excellent. After you read it you will be convinced that these shutdowns are the right decision. Medium.com Tomas Pueyo: Coronavirus: Act Today

MORE NEWS

By now pretty almost ALL local events have been canceled. There's a few exceptions; for example, the Mary and Martha dinners will take place but be drive thru. The library is closed and events are canceled. Local events more than a month away might still take place (scroll WAY down to see them).

Restaurant dining areas are closed. Most local restaurants are still open for carry out and/or drive through. Some restaurants are offering delivery during this time! Call them to find out if they are open and what the options are.

You can also browse this post on Our Coldwater (Facebook) for some restaurant announcements (see comments).

Regarding groceries, note that some local businesses, like Walmart and Meijer, have reduced open hours. Stores are very busy and are selling out of staples. Bring hand sanitizer and pratice social distancing. Try to eliminate non-essential trips.

MICHIGAN COVID-19 TRACKER

If you have been watching this graph daily, the virus is totally out of control in Michigan, despite quarantine orders. It's not too late to prevent this from happening in Branch County. Please obey all directives from the Governor and other authorities, and stay home unless absolutely necessary.
